While you aren’t required by law to have individual health insurance like individuals were when the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) first passed, it is generally a good idea to have some sort of health insurance coverage, even if you’re healthy.

Insurance companies use metal levels to describe different types of individual health insurance plans. These are Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Generally, the lower your monthly premium, the higher your out-of-pocket costs will be when you need medical services. The Bronze level has the lowest premiums, but you will pay higher costs for the care you need. The Gold level costs the most up front, but you have lower out-of-pocket costs.
